The new Hunger Games movie is in theaters nowbut both new and old fans of the franchise can catch up with the story The ballad of songbirds and snakes by reading the original book that inspired the film.

“The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” written by Suzanne Collins and released in 2020, is a prequel to the Hunger Games book trilogy, set 64 years before the first novel. Thanks to a new Amazon deal, you can now buy “Songbirds and Snakes” in hardcover for just $10.99. Published by Scholastic Press, the 528-page novel follows young Coriolanus Snow as he prepares for his only chance at glory as a mentor in the Hunger Games. The fate of the House of Snow lies in his hands as he guides the female tribute from District 12.

As the publisher notes: “Their fates are now completely intertwined – every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin. In the arena it becomes a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus begins to feel for his doomed tribute… and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive, whatever it takes.”

“The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” became an instant New York Times bestseller when it was released in May 2020 and the book is now back on the bestseller lists as the film hits theaters.
