German Siemens signs an agreement to develop the Iraqi electricity network

Date:

“In the coming years, Iraq will invest heavily in energy infrastructure… and Siemens Energy will play a major role in this development,” said German Economics Minister Robert Habeck, who with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein witnessed the signing of the memorandum of understanding in Berlin.

Energy company Siemens said on Friday that it plans to expand its cooperation with Iraq in the coming years, with its CEO signing an agreement with the Iraqi government to develop the country’s electricity grid. The CEO of the company, Christian Bruch, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali, to increase the domestic electricity production, by about 11 gigawatts.

“In the coming years, Iraq will invest heavily in energy infrastructure … and Siemens Energy will play a major role in this development,” said German Economics Minister Robert Habeck, who with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein witnessed the signing of the memorandum of understanding in Berlin. The ministry said in a statement that the planned projects include the establishment and development of facilities to generate energy from conventional and renewable sources.

“Having a reliable source of energy is the foundation for a stable society… Supplying electricity to large parts of an entire country is therefore one of the most important tasks of our company,” Bruch said in a statement to Reuters before the meeting, adding that the company will work to ensure that this is achieved as soon as possible. Possible with its partners in Iraq.
