A Georgia mother of three died while trying to save her children from a house fire.

Madison Summerville, 23, died Thursday morning after a fire consumed her family’s home in Griffin, just over an hour from Atlanta.

The mother suffered severe smoke inhalation and died of cardiac arrest after trying to save her three-year-old daughter Paisley, four-year-old son Thomas and five-year-old son Kayden.

Paisley was initially unresponsive because of the fire, but regained consciousness on Friday and remains in the ICU. The young people suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Madison has been remembered as a “happy person who made you laugh instantly,” her sister Chasidy wrote in a GoFundMe page.

Spalding County Fire Chief Rocky White said that in addition to Madison helping her children out of the burning house, neighbors also helped at the scene.

Madison’s children were flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta after they were miraculously rescued from the fire.

Her sister described Summerville as an “incredible mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend” who had just celebrated her 23rd birthday just 23 days before the tragedy.

Chasidy also revealed that in addition to saving the lives of his children, he saved eight more lives thanks to the donation of his organs.

A GoFundMe page was created to help raise money for the mother’s funeral, as her sister said she did not have life insurance. She has raised more than $7,000 as of Monday afternoon.

Amber Morris, Madison’s sister-in-law, said the late mother’s children will now be cared for by her brother. WXIA-TV reported.

He also said that if other people had not intervened to help everyone escape, there could have been a different outcome.

“My brother is looking for the others because he wants to thank them personally,” he said.

“If it weren’t for them, there’s no telling how bad this would be.”
