Britain’s Georgia Bell secured bronze with a late comeback in the women’s 1500m on Saturday.
The 30-year-old entered the final stretch at the Stade de France with plenty of ground to make up before setting up a powerful late goal.
As Ethiopian Diribe Welteji began to slow as the finish line approached, Bell seized the opportunity, powering her way onto the podium and setting a new British record in the process.
Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon came into the event as the overwhelming favourite and dominated the event, building a commanding lead before setting a new Olympic record with a time of 3:51.29.
Her Team GB teammate Laura Muir posted a personal best time in the event but was forced to settle for fifth place.
