Police are searching a waterway on the edge of Sydney’s city after a man who screamed for help in the dark apparently went missing.

Police, in boats and by helicopter, searched the area and found an unoccupied boat and car at the scene.

Emergency services were called to Carinya Road at Picnic Point in Sydney’s southwest at around 11pm on Saturday.

People nearby heard a man calling for help from the Georges River, police said in a statement Sunday morning.

Bankstown Police searched the area along with the police helicopter and Marine Area Command.

“A short time later, an unoccupied boat and a black sedan were located nearby,” police said in the statement.

Police divers appear to be concentrating on a 10-metre-long closed-cabin boat called the ‘Dee Too’.

‘Dee Too’ has a white dinghy tied to it.
