Mad Max: Furiosa director George Miller has revealed his shocking verdict on the performances of his lead actors Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy.
The veteran filmmaker, 79, recently appeared at the 2024 Warner Bros. CinemaCon in Las Vegas and jokingly said they were so good he had trouble recognizing them without costume.
“To me they are a complete fraud after spending a year on the cutting room floor,” he said.
Both Chris, 40, and Anya, 28, appear unrecognizable in the trailer for the upcoming film, with Chris transforming into the villain Dementus with long, shaggy, shoulder-length hair, an overgrown beard and a prosthetic nose.
Meanwhile, Anya sports a matted hair and dirty face in the trailers, looking a far cry from her usual glamour.

Miller added that both actors had the perfect combination of charisma and stamina to successfully carry out the demanding roles.
“In order for Chris to lead this tribe of nomadic individuals across the wasteland and inspire some hope and positivity, there needed to be an element of charisma,” he said.
“Anya is determined, disciplined and very intelligent.”

Mad Mad: Furiosa, the fifth film in the long-running series, will be released in theaters on Thursday, May 23.
The film tells the origin story of a young Imperator Furiosa, played by Anya, who rose to fame as the star of the Netflix hit The Queen’s Gambit.
Meanwhile, Chris has described his character Dementus as “a very violent, crazy, brutal person born from the Wasteland.”

‘He was born in a space where what matters is killing or being killed. He has learned to rule with an iron fist. He has charisma and is very manipulative,” he said at CCXP in Brazil, where images of the trailer were released.
Furiosa was filmed in New South Wales and was expected to become the biggest movie ever made in Australia. Filming concluded in September 2022.
Franchise creator Miller also returns as director and co-writer of Furiosa, alongside Nico Lathouris, as well as his longtime producing partner, Doug Mitchell.
Miller has described the prequel as “a saga” that will be told over a 15-year period, which is very different from Fury Road, which lasted three days in its time period.
