The wife of Rugby League footballer George Burgess, Joanna, has revealed she is in hotel quarantine in Australia after being quietly flown over from the UK.

On Sunday, the 31-year-old shared a series of photos from her hotel balcony in Sydney’s CBD, amid reports that her husband, 29, has signed a two-year deal with the St George Illawarra Dragons.

George and the couple’s four-year-old son, Boston, were not present in the footage, suggesting they could arrive Down Under at a later date.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the Australian model had also shared photos of Sydney’s lockdown protests from her balcony on Saturday, captioning: ‘People want their freedom.’

She later added: “To be clear – I never said I was for or against the protest being held in Sydney today: it was just a little bit different for my girls to watch from our hotel’s quarantine balcony: day six.’

George and Joanna were married in Noosa in 2016.

The Burgess family had moved to the UK in 2019, after George signed a three-year deal with England’s Wigan Warriors.

He played eight times in the 2020 season before leaving the club due to an ongoing hip injury.

In June 2021, George confirmed his interest in an NRL comeback with the Dragons after life-changing hip surgery.

He told Nine he had an “informal conversation” with St. George Illawarra’s assistant coach Peter Gentle about possibly pursuing a gig with the Dragons.

“It was a very informal thing… I’m a buddy with him and keep in touch with him and he just spoke to me and he’s clearly an assistant there now,” he said.

“It was very informal, but the Dragons are clearly a great club.”
