George and Amal Clooney make an offer to upgrade their country house with a new shed for ‘safety purposes’
George and Amal Clooney are building a “security” shed on the grounds of their vast £ 12 million monumental mansion, it can be revealed today.
The Hollywood star and human rights lawyer moved to the 17th-century home in Berkshire in 2016 after an intensive 18-month renovation.
In a planning request to the municipality, their new addition – complete with what appears to be a toilet – is described as a simple, single-storey wooden construction with a sloping roof covered with cedar shingles.
The couple’s Georgian house, which stands on an idyllic stretch of the Thames, is separated by trees on acres of land – but it seems that the controversial couple want to strengthen security because the famous house attracts more tourists.

It will be built in the style of a garden shed near their gravel driveway on the Georgian estate.
The planning application said: “Development proposals include the construction of a single outbuilding for security purposes.
‘The proposed outbuilding must be clad with reclaimed wooden planks and the roof covered with cedar wood. The shape is typical of a gazebo with a simple rectangular footprint and a sloping roof.
‘The proposed outbuilding is only intended for occasional use in connection with the main building.
‘The proposed location is within a landscaped bed between the gravel driveway and the gravel parking lot outside the main building. The existing landscape will give a view of the outbuilding from the house. “

The safety base of the ‘garden shed’ must be built far from the River Thames, which runs alongside the Clooney’s house and regularly inclines the banks to the lawn after periods of heavy rainfall.
South Oxfordshire District Council was expected to make its planning decision in the coming weeks.

The Clooneys paid an undisclosed amount for the monumental real estate, which was put on the market for £ 7.5 million in September 2014, a few weeks after their three-day wedding extravaganza in Venice.
The village is a higgledy-piggledy mix of half-timbered houses, some dating from the 13th century, and stricter Georgian properties.
The interior, consisting of almost 11,000 square feet in total, was completely overhauled and retained its original features – but the interior now has a light, modern look compared to the more traditional fixtures of the past.
Staff quarters include a professional kitchen (neighbors say the Clooneys have an Italian chef), bedroom and office.

At night, the sandstone building, with its newly charged Yorkstone terrace, is illuminated by floor lamps.
A walkway connected to the house leads to a conservatory and a spacious pool house overlooking a 60ft pool, hot tub and a reclaimed Yorkstone terrace, lined with a row of pine trees.
Next to the pool is a shaded oak pergola where the couple can relax after a swim. The emphasis was on making everything look natural and organic.
Inside the ultramodern leisure complex is a private cinema with 12 seats – a must for a Hollywood superstar like George.
A short walk from the pool is an AstroTurf-covered tennis court surrounded by a black mesh.
The long lawn that leads to the river has been redesigned and equipped with an underground irrigation system.
There is also a fitness room with associated shower and changing room and the boathouse, which has its own jetty, has also been renovated.
One of the most romantic parts of the property is the River House. This was knocked down and rebuilt, weatherproof and has stone steps leading to the river.
