Geordie Shore have reportedly been AXED after 12 years on screens.
The MTV reality show, which followed the lives of party stars such as Vicky Pattison and Charlotte Crosby in Newcastle, was pulled amid plummeting ratings. Sun claims.
The series started in 2011 and has produced a host of stars and influencers including Marnie Simpson, Holly Hagan and Sophie Kasaei.
A source told the publication: ‘MTV bosses have decided the time has come to call it a day on Geordie Shore.
The already commissioned series, which is the show’s 24th, will continue with filming beginning this weekend with the reunion continuing as planned later this summer.

More: The MTV reality show, which followed the lives of party stars like Vicky Pattison and Charlotte Crosby in Newcastle, has been pulled amid plummeting ratings, claims The Sun.
“But once they’ve been filmed, MTV has decided to put the series on hiatus and won’t be commissioning any more. Think of it as resting the format instead of canceling it properly.’
The insider added that while it has been one of the most successful races of all time, it hasn’t been the same for a few years, so the bosses thought the timing was right.
The source also claimed that the show’s current stars have yet to be told the news of the layoff and that they expect a “mixed reaction” to the latest.
The publication reports that while at the height of its success more than a million people watched each episode, it is now said to have around 100,000 viewers.
Geordie Shore has been contacted by MailOnline for comment.
The 24th series will go ahead and so will the reunion series this summer.
Last April, MTV announced that it was producing a Geordie Shore reunion series that would air in September 2022.
The OG cast members, including Charlotte, Holly and Sophie, have returned to the screens together, 11 years after the reality show first aired in 2011.
The original Geordie Shore paved the way for the success of its American equivalent, Jersey Shore, and follows a group of young adults from Newcastle as they move into a house together.
The series of reunions included a group vacation, a long-awaited wedding, and a party at the Geordie Shore house.
The new series was dubbed the ‘ultimate Geordie throwback’ as the original cast members, as well as Marnie, who joined the show in 2013, took it upon themselves to organize the reunion.
Charlotte said of the news at the time: “I’ve always said I’d be up for a reunion show and I made no secret that Geordie Shore holds a special place in my heart.”
“I’m so excited to reconnect and reminisce with my favorite people and lifelong friends.”
The reality star originally left the show in 2016 after announcing her departure on Twitter.
