A Republican candidate for Congress decided to take control of the immigration crisis and fix a part of the border between Mexico and California herself using barbed wire.
Kate Monroe, author and Marine Corps veteran, carried 400 feet of razor wire to a gap on the southern border that has been famous in recent months for mass migrant crossings that left the rural area littered with trash and debris .
The border opening, known locally as ‘San Judas Break’ due to its proximity to a nearby Mexican town of the same name, is located approximately 80 miles east of San Diego, near Jacumba Hot Springs, California. The opening itself is only a few meters wide.
Monroe, who is running for California’s 49th congressional district, told DailyMail.com that she is tired of politicians talking about the border and doing nothing about it.
“I found it appalling that we couldn’t secure that part of the wall as if it were a huge opening,” he told DailyMail.com in a statement.

The ‘San Judas Break’ has been a popular location for immigrants wishing to cross into the US.
“Thank God Amazon sells barbed wire,” he added. “I want Americans to realize that you don’t have to wait for someone else to do what you can do.”

The location has been a popular crossing point for Chinese nationals, at least 450 of whom have crossed the gap since Monday.
More than 37,000 Chinese migrants were reportedly encountered at the border in fiscal year 2023, and a staggering 20,000 more have crossed since October, when fiscal year 2024 began.
Jerry Schuster, a 75-year-old man who owns the land the migrants pass over, estimated 3,000 people cross a week.
Monroe told DailyMail.com that he saw a group of about 60 migrants who had recently crossed waiting for free transportation from the US government.
‘When we arrived on the scene, the border patrol was sitting in their vans watching the migrants as they waited to be picked up and taken to the airport. We talked to the border agents and they told us there was nothing they could do about it.
Monroe told DailyMail.com that closing the gap was both effective and symbolic, as thousands of people have used the spot to cross in recent months.
“The closing of that hole forced them to have to walk miles over rugged terrain into the mountains,” he said before adding, “I’ll walk up there and close it too.”
Monroe is the executive director of Vetcomm, a veterans affairs group that helps former service members.

Migrants frequently cross the border and wait for the US Border Patrol to pick them up.
Their move to secure the border comes as Congress has crippled border security.
The Senate spent months negotiating a border security and foreign aid deal that collapsed at the last minute after Republicans denounced weak immigration provisions and Republican front-runner Donald Trump criticized the bill as a “horrible betrayal of borders.” open to the United States.
