A man has been fined more than $1,100 after an unusual gender reveal party, which police say could have been deadly.

Police were called to Franston Gardens Drive in Carrum Downs, in Melbourne’s southeast, about 2pm on Sunday following reports of harassment.

They found about 30 partygoers and children gathered in the street watching a driver allegedly burn as blue smoke billowed from the car’s tires.

First Officer Darcie Sword said the blue smoke was part of a baby gender reveal party.

Senior Sergeant Hulley told News Corp this was an extremely dangerous stunt which could have killed or seriously injured people.

He said that instead of taking care of their children, parents were more concerned about filming exhaustion.

“(I’m) totally flabbergasted that someone would be so stupid and that people think it’s a good idea,” said Master Sgt.

“They could have died, they could have stood in front of the car. (It’s) disgraceful behavior and bad parenting.

“If someone wants their gender revealed, let them eat a cake instead.”

A 29-year-old man from Frankston North had his Holden Commodore confiscated and fined $1,120.50.

He is expected to be charged with traffic violations following a citation.
