Gemma Atkinson revealed how she deals with body shaming while posing in a sexy red swimsuit on the cover of Women’s health UK on Friday.

The presenter explained that some people asked her why she hadn’t gotten in shape faster after welcoming her second child with her fiancé Gorka Márquez.

Gemma, 40, shares daughter Mia, five, and son Thiago, 17, months with the Strictly Come Dancing professional, 34.

She said she has her own way of dealing with online trolls as she posed in various sports bras and shorts showing off her toned abs for the photoshoot.

Gemma shared: “Some people messaged me and said, “I thought you would get fitter quicker; you are very focused on your training; “I’m surprised it took you 10 months.”

‘My mum used to say – well, she still tells me – if someone doesn’t know you personally, why would you take what they say personally? Even if someone says something nice, it’s very nice, but you can’t accept it because your head is swollen.’

For her cover shoot, Gemma looked incredible in a one-shoulder swimsuit that featured a daring cut-out at the waist, revealing her toned midriff.

Combing her long blonde tresses into a neat braid, Gemma, who said she is “embracing aging as best as she can”, placed her hands on her hips as she posed for the cover.

In a second shot, the radio host sported a black sports bra and matching pants as she lay on the floor.

The mother-of-two put on a leggy display in a pair of red cycling shorts and a matching sports bra as she posed with a black leather jacket draped over her shoulders.

For the final two looks, Gemma wore white sportswear with colorful jackets as she posed holding a large white medicine ball.

Elsewhere in the interview, the star said there is “no point in fighting” aging and that she feels “fitter and stronger” than ever.

Gemma also spoke about returning to training at her own pace after welcoming her son Thiago in July 2023 via Caesarean section.

She said: “I was telling myself, ‘You’ve been cut, through seven layers (of tissue), right? Let that heal before you do anything. So I focused a lot on nutrition… And then after about 13 or 14 weeks, I started doing light exercise again.

‘Little by little I was rebuilding to where I am now… I feel better than ever. So it took me over a year, but I did it at my own pace, at my own pace, and now I feel great.’

Gemma regularly shares her ups and downs in life as a mother on social media.

In October, the former soap opera star responded to those who criticized her for biting her son Thiago “to teach him a lesson.”

MailOnline revealed at the time that Gemma had told her two million followers that she had pinched Thiago in retaliation for the boy doing the same to her five-year-old daughter Mia.

Some parents felt that their actions were a bad form of punishment, with Jo Studholmeeditor of Parenting Expert, admitting that it is “harmful.”

Jo told MailOnline: ‘Pinching a child as a form of punishment is not only ineffective but can also be harmful.

‘Teach children that violence is an acceptable way to resolve conflict.

“Instead, try using positive discipline techniques, such as time-outs, loss of privileges, or calmly talking to the child about his or her behavior.”

Gemma defended her actions on Wednesday in an Instagram story after receiving a lot of backlash.

She said: ‘Thiago is going through that phase where he bites and bites.

“I said he really nibbled on Mia the other day, so I responded like this (making a pinching gesture) and said, ‘Yeah, we don’t nibble.’

‘Didn’t I ‘uuur’ (hinting pain while pretending to pinch his own arm), like I did?’

The former Hollyoaks and Emmerdale star, who also appeared on a reality show with Gorka and the couple’s two children on W Channel, posted her original message on Instagram Stories to highlight the differences in behavior between her children.

The post read: ‘I really noticed the differences in how Mia was compared to Thiago. It’s fun to watch. The toys just get banged or slid on the floor and the tantrums are new since Mia didn’t have them.

‘He pretends to cry and falls to the ground. I stay and watch until he realizes it’s getting him nowhere and they’re slowly getting shorter.’

Regarding pinching, he adds: “He pinches when he gets frustrated. I did it to him again on Wednesday because he went hard on Mia. He hasn’t done it again since.
