Geek Girl fans are praising Netflix’s new adaptation of the book series as “phenomenal” after its release on the streaming platform on Thursday.
Based on the popular young adult novel series by former teen model Holly Smale, the fiction series spanned six books that were published between 2013 and 2017.
Inspired by Holly’s own experiences as a model, the series proved a hit with teenage readers.
The plot of the new series centers on the life of 16-year-old Harriet Manners, played by Emily Carey, a student at Hollybridge High School.
After rushing to watch the new series, fans of the show gushed in praise, as they wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Geek Girl on Netflix is so good I cried.”

Based on the popular young adult novel series by former teen model Holly Smale, the fiction series spanned six books that were published between 2013 and 2017.
‘None of you understand what this means to me. Those books were the only ones I liked when I was a kid, I read them obsessively (it was) literally my first hyperfixation. And if I die? I’m so excited.’
“I’m absolutely crying because Geek Girl on Netflix is everything I could have wanted and more, and I’m only 15 minutes in. Toby is exactly how I imagined him and I can’t stop smiling.
“Holly Smale brings the comfort of my teenage years to life on screen in the best way.”
“Geek Girl on Netflix is a very fun show so far.”
The show explores the story of socially awkward and often bullied Harriet, who immerses herself in the world of fashion after being discovered by a modeling agent during a school trip.
This gives her the opportunity to change her life dramatically as she has the chance to evolve from an awkward teenager to a rising star.
However, her new life is anything but glamorous, as tension abounds between Harriet and her fashion-obsessed best friend, Nat (Rochelle Harrington), and with established model Poppy Hepple-Cartwright (Daisy Jelley), who sees Harriet as a threat.
Despite her anxieties, Harriet overcomes the pressures with the support of her father, Richard (Tim Downie), her protective stepmother, Annabel (Jemima Rooper), and her geeky classmate Toby (Zac Looker).
And her crush on fellow model Nick Park (Woodrum) is also a good distraction.
Geek Girl is now available to stream on Netflix.
