You would think that Oprah Winfrey's best friend – a very successful journalist and TV personality in herself – can get a few strings and get just about anything she wants when she wants it.
But Gayle King revealed Monday that she was trying 15 different Popeyes locations looking for the chain's new baked chicken sandwich, and she still left empty-handed.
The 64-year-old wrote on Instagram that she and her cousin Cameron Harrison, an associated producer at Good Morning America, tried to visit more than a dozen restaurants in a pointless search for the incredibly popular dish.
Prior to shooting: Gayle King revealed on Monday that she had to go to 15 different Popeyes locations to find the new baked chicken sandwich, and she still left empty-handed
Sad: she shared a picture of a sign on the door of a Popeyes stating that the location from the sandwich was sold out
& # 39; We also called Fifteen locations how do you get to that sandwich on Sunday ??? !!!! May need therapy to recover, & she said
Popeyes debuted his very first chicken sandwich with much fanfare earlier this month – but the chain seems to have underestimated the demand for the newest addition to the menu.
US stores sell off the sandwich and sign places for disappointed customers who have started complaining through social media.
Gayle is one of them. On Monday, she shared a picture of herself with her cousin Cameron outside of Popeyes, both with a big smile on their faces – presumably before they got the bad news.
& # 39; We are SO psyched today cousin @ cameronharrison6 ready to taste THEEE CHICKEN sandwich @ popeyeslouisianakitchen, & # 39; she wrote.
Too popular: US stores sell off the sandwich since it debuted
& # 39; Whomp whomp, & # 39; she added, and also posted a photo of a sign that was placed outside, announcing that a store was sold out.
& # 39; We also called Fifteen locations how do you get to that sandwich on Sunday ??? !!!! May need therapy to recover. & # 39;
It seems surprising that Gayle could not have had them delivered by someone who works for the company, although it seems that the star has chosen not to use her connections to jump over the line.
After her post, however, it is certainly possible that Popeyes is in a hurry to get sandwiches with her as quickly as possible.
But it's not the first time that sober Gayle has not used her power or connections to score a better deal.
Frustrated: Earlier this summer, Gayle documented her journey from New York City to the Hamptons on Instagram, starting with a picture of herself in the hot bus
Hellish: The CBS This Morning anchor revealed in its caption that they were trapped in traffic in 80 degree heat without air conditioning
Earlier this summer, Gayle – who earns $ 11 million a year from CBS – complained about a traffic jam while taking a bus to the Hamptons.
The CBS This Morning Anchor, which has enjoyed many luxurious holidays with Oprah over the years, went to Instagram in early July to complain about its uncomfortable journey from New York City to the popular weekend destination, regretting the lack of AC and the & # 39; bumper to bumper & # 39; movement & # 39; while sharing a sweaty selfie.
& # 39; On the BUS towards the Hamptons temperature in the 80s and bumper to bumper traffic & we have NO air … I now wonder if I am a bus person. Driver and fellow sweaty people all very nice … FUN! & # 39; she endorsed the image.
Ironically, unlike many other customers who regularly use the bus, it was probably well within Gayle's spending power to opt for a much faster and more luxurious form of transport to the Hamptons, such as a pay-per-trip helicopter from the city.
Blade, a company offering helicopter services to and from New York, has journeys from Manhattan to the Hamptons, with tickets ranging from $ 495 to $ 694 per person.
All smiles: in a follow-up post, Gayle announced that they could change buses after two and a half hours and finally had air conditioning
Hamptons style: the journalist looked for a summer in a yellow dress with navy flowers
She understands: in her caption she admitted that she knew her problems & # 39; first class problems & # 39; goods
Even a few hundred dollars is a relatively meager sum compared to the $ 11 million a year that Gayle is supposed to earn after doubling her contract with CBS when it was renegotiated earlier this year.
Alternatively, a taxi from New York City to Southampton costs around $ 300, while a Uber will probably cost around $ 250.
Meanwhile, a one-way ticket on the Hamptons Jitney – the main bus service between New York City and the Hamptons – costs between $ 23 and $ 35, depending on the route and whether it is booked in advance.
However, as Gayle has shown, the bus is not always the most comfortable way to travel, nor is it the fastest.
Her decision to choose a more penny-squeezing means of transport, however, gave a friend the chance to put a bit of pleasure into the CBS star.
Former Gayle's assistant, Arianna Davis, who is now the digital director of OprahMag.com, could not resist saying that her boss had turned off the bus earlier.
Arrival: The last image of her journey shows her posing with her bus driver Desiree at their destination
Twice the time: Gayle revealed that the journey lasted about two and a half hours four hours
& # 39; I remember very well that you told me that when I was your assistant, I would never get on the bus to the Hampton & # 39; s again … think you forgot, & # 39; she joked.
In her follow-up post, Gayle shared photos of herself posing in the doorway of a bus, showing that they could switch vehicles and finally had air conditioning.
Although she was clearly warm in the steaming bus, the journalist looked for a summer in a sunny yellow dress with navy blue flowers and sparkling slippers.
& # 39; Thing thing thing! The latest news after two and a half hours without air in the hot bus … our driver was able to get another bus for us … just driven off the highway to make the exchange, that is the good news … traffic is still bumper to bumper to the Hamptons yes yes yes I know first-class problems … it is what it is .. I now wonder HOW am I afraid of helicopters? & # 39; she wrote.
The last image of her journey shows her posing with her bus driver, with a statement that the journey of about two and a half hours cost almost twice as much.
& # 39; WE MADE IT !! Special mom hug for driver Desiree (as she wishes with an extra E) who brought us here safely !!!! Abandoned city at 12:30 arrival 4:35 … so nice … have a great weekend! & # 39; she wrote.
