Gavin Newsom goes all out in his attacks on Ron DeSantis, claiming there’s no way the famous Florida governor could defeat Donald Trump in the primary and slamming his unauthorized pregnancy law signs.
The Democratic California governor’s frequent criticism of DeSantis appears to spark a competition as Americans call for fresh blood in the White House — while the 2024 presidential election looks set to be another showdown between septuagenarian Trump and octogenarian Joe Biden.
DeSantis, 44, has not yet announced whether he will run in the Republican primary, but many have expected him to take his growing war fortune and enter the race in the coming months.
Newsom, 55, says there is no chance the Florida Republican will prevail over the former president.
“He’s going to be rolled over by Trump,” Newsom told former White House press secretary and now MSNBC host Jen Psaki. Trump will turn it around. Confounded.
California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom said his Florida counterpart Ron DeSantis would be “rolled over” by Donald Trump, and claimed he was “scared to death of the public”

DeSantis has yet to announce his bid for president, but so far he’s the only one giving Trump a run for his money in the polls.
“Honestly, if I was offering him political advice, I would tell him to pack up and wait a few years,” Newsom added in his Sunday interview with Psaki.
He also claimed that DeSantis is “afraid of the public”. It is not clear what this attack indicates, but it could be the fact that the Florida governor has snubbed most of the mainstream media by refusing to engage in interviews with media that his office deems unfavorable to his policies and positions.
As part of Newsom’s stunt, DeSantis’ deputy press secretary Jeremy Redfern criticized the California governor for spending “his time talking about Governor DeSantis.”
“(Gov. DeSantis) is spending his time governing on behalf of Floridians, implementing conservative policy, and spreading the Florida blueprint for success,” he added in a tweet on Newsom’s comments.
Newsom sat down for a pre-recorded interview with Psaki in Alabama while touring Republican-led states, including Arkansas and Mississippi.
During that interview, he didn’t utter words to the nation’s most popular and famous Republican leader.
“They don’t care about our kids,” Newsom said of DeSantis and the Florida legislature after it passed a law allowing people in Florida to carry firearms without a permit.
“If they did, they would ban these damned weapons of war,” he added in the interview that aired on Sunday. They will have background checks that require some common sense.
The finger-pointing came in the wake of the billboard, which occurred just days after a shooting at a Christian elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee, left six people dead, including three nine-year-old students.
“(DeSantis) scared to death, scared of people, scared of the audience,” Newsom said. “I think the majority of NRA members would probably disagree with that position.”

Newsom sat down to interview Jen Psaki during a tour of the red states following the launch of the new PAC, which aims to invite red states and “authoritarian leaders.” DeSantis attacked as he signs new unauthorized pregnancy law in Florida just days after Tennessee school shooting
The California governor, who was able to keep his seat after facing a recall election for his actions during the COVID-19 pandemic, has recently purposefully raised his national profile.
Newsom recently launched a new political action committee (PAC) called the Campaign for Democracy. It aims to define policies in red countries and target what it claims are “authoritarian leaders”.
Florida’s new concealment law was signed into law by DeSantis the week after the March 27 Covenant school shooting. It is widely opposed by Democrats – and even some Republicans.
A University of North Florida poll in early March found that 62 percent of respondents opposed the bill, with 93 percent of Democrats feeling that way and only 21 percent of Republicans agreeing.
“Carry the Constitution on the books,” DeSantis said during a press release after the bill was signed into law.
Since the shootings in Tennessee last month, protests have erupted at the state capitol and thrown the legislature into chaos. Two members of the Tennessee House of Representatives have been evicted after staging a protest on the grounds.
