Gary Rossington, guitarist and last surviving founder of the rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, has passed away. He turned 71.
The band confirmed Rossington’s passing in a statement on their official Facebook page on Sunday. No reason was given.
“It is with our deepest sympathy and sadness that we announce that today we have lost our brother, friend, relative, songwriter and guitarist Gary Rossington,” the statement read.
“Gary is now in heaven with his Skynyrd brothers and family and playing it nicely, as he always does. Please keep Dale, Mary, Annie and the entire Rossington family in your prayers and respect the family’s privacy at this difficult time.”
