Gary Neville stuck to his pre-season prediction and still insists Arsenal will win the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners have had a mixed first half of the season and currently sit third in the table, nine points behind leaders Liverpool ahead of their clash with Brentford on Wednesday.

Liverpool have been the surprise so far in their first season under Arne Slot, with the Reds winning 14 of their 18 games so far.

The Merseyside club’s fight for the title has been led by Mohamed Salah, current top scorer and leader in assists.

However, Neville believes it will be Mikel Arteta’s side that claim their first Premier League title in 21 years, although he admitted the current leaders are the favorites to go all the way.

‘Sometimes they go through pain. “Liverpool are big favorites and are in great form, but there is still a long way to go,” the former Manchester United defender told Sky Sports.

“Arsenal have gone through some soft times in recent years. “They have gone to the last moment and sometimes when you win the first time it doesn’t happen in the most expected way, things can happen.”

Asked what could derail Liverpool’s challenge, Neville added: “Van Dijk. That’s what stands out to me. That (if) Van Dijk got injured would be a completely different story.

“Those six points (of disadvantage) that Arsenal can reach in a couple of days would be reduced quite quickly (without Van Dijk). He is an immense player for (Liverpool).”

Liverpool topped the table on Christmas Day for the first time since the 2020-21 season, when they finished third.

Premier League glory in May would give the Reds their 20th league title, the biggest title ever achieved alongside rivals United.
