“They won’t win!” Gary Neville claims Arsenal will NOT be Premier League champions this season despite their EIGHT POINT lead at the top of the table…as he also supports Manchester United to finish above the Gunners
Gary Neville has claimed Arsenal will not win the Premier League this season despite being eight points clear of second-placed Manchester City – and also supported Manchester United to finish above the Gunners.
Mikel Arteta’s side cemented their title credentials on Sunday with a dominant 2-0 victory over North London rivals Tottenham, thanks to an own goal from Hugo Lloris and a fantastic goal from Martin Odegaard.
The result means Arsenal have now won 15 of their 18 Premier League games and lost just once.
Gary Neville claimed Manchester City will beat Arsenal in the Premier League title this season
Neville’s claims come despite the Gunners being eight points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side
However, Neville – who saw his former side beat United City 2-1 on Saturday to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to nine games – doesn’t believe the Gunners have what it takes to go the distance.
“No (they won’t win the league),” Neville narrated his own podcast. “But I said Leicester wouldn’t win the league.
They won’t win the league. Manchester City will win the league and I think Man Utd will finish second, and I know that will annoy Arsenal fans!
“I’d rather Arsenal win the league than Man City. I think it would be absolutely sensational for the Premier League.
“I think of watching the Premier League, we’ve seen City advance over the last five years apart from Liverpool. To think that Arsenal could come and win, it adds something to our league, it makes our league great.
“I would like Man Utd to win, but I don’t think that will happen this season.”
Neville believes City’s depth and Erling Haaland’s goals will be too much for Arsenal
Pep Guardiola’s side have had a slump in recent weeks – losing their last two games to United and Southampton – while also dropping points against Premier League strugglers Everton.
However, Neville backed them to turn it around and believed the depth and quality in their side would mean they would eventually overpower Arsenal.
He explained: “The reality is I think Man City will make a run at some point. Once they do, they need to play Arsenal twice.
“If Erling Haaland starts kicking, if City starts spinning, if the defense starts to get a bit stronger than before, and they need Ruben Dias back if they can, then I think City will win.
“There will be a very difficult period for Arsenal this season. Is it conceivable that Arsenal will continue as before? I do not think so.
“Can they draw two and lose one in a three-game span, and if they did, their lead is gone and it’s the pack’s turn?
He also insisted that Manchester United finish above the Gunners after their recent form
However, Neville took the time to salute Mikel Arteta’s work as a young manager
“That’s what I think is going to happen, we’re going to see a traditional Premier League season where one team goes out, the pacemaker, and then they pull back a bit.
Neville also praised Arteta’s work with the Gunners and believes it will be a great performance from the Spaniard if he can lead his team to the title.
He added: “It’s so hard for young managers to break that (Antonio) Conte, (Jurgen) Klopp, (Carlo) Ancelotti, (Pep) Guardiola, (Jose) Mourinho mold and become one of those super managers .You can’t break them.
‘If Arteta wins the competition this season, he will break through in that peloton. He does it anyway, because his football is fantastic. But he needs to win that trophy.
So fingers crossed they win, if Man Utd can’t, which I don’t think they can, because I prefer that for the Premier League.
‘Man City have won too many titles for me!’
