An AFL legend has revealed the incredible moment at which he was shot by & # 39; territorial hillbillies & # 39; during a training camp in the preseason in Victoria.

Garry Lyon, a former captain of the football club & # 39; Demons & # 39; in Melbourne, said during a training session in Ballarat several members of the team were being shot by angry locals.

Lyon, 51, said the team led by legendary football coach John Northey ran through the bush before two men started shooting and the players followed the shower.

& # 39; We had a pre-season training camp in Ballarat, where (Northey) came from, & # 39; Lyon told Thursday at the Front Bar.

& # 39; We had done a tough Friday evening, we had done Saturday all day, and Sunday was a trip through the bush in Creswick. & # 39;

Lyon, who played for Melbourne from 1986 to 1999, said the team was divided into eight groups during the bush run and that he was in the last group.

& # 39; (Northey) said: & # 39; Look, the locals are a bit territorial, running through the hills and that, so be careful & # 39 ;. I was just a young guy, so I just said & honestly & # 39 ;.

& # 39; We are halfway up the hill and stick out these two hillbillies with guns. They said: & # 39; Go down our hill ya b ***** ds! & # 39; and shot over our heads, & Lyon said.

Lyon said one of his teammates & # 39; went flying & # 39; while the rest of them sprinted down the hill before the shooters threatened them again in the showers during the incident in the late 80s or early 90s.

& # 39; So we went and took a shower and this guy is charging in the shower, & # 39; he said.

Lyon then took pleasure in the Adelaide Crows, which came under fire after an emotionally exhausting pre-season training camp in 2018 that left players mentally traumatized.

& # 39; And you think the Adelaide Crows had a problem with their preseason. & # 39;
