Former Real Madrid star Gareth Bale encountered an awkward moment when asked to sign his former club’s shirt for an MLS clash on Monday night.

The 32-year-old signed a one-year contract with MLS’ LAFC last month, ending a trophy-laden nine years in Madrid.

He helped the Spanish giants win five Champions Leagues but did not leave on the best terms, his last years being clouded by limited playing time and a deteriorating relationship with the club’s supporters.

However, a Madrid fan clearly had no ill feelings towards him ahead of Monday’s game against Nashville.

The man handed Bale a Madrid shirt, asked him to sign it and said: ‘I love you bro’.

Bale looked a little sheepish during the interaction before signing the shirt and smiled.

He would make his debut as a substitute in the second half and immediately impress the fans with a skilled heel when his new club won.

The win kept LA top of the Western Conference, one point ahead of second-seeded Austin.
