Expert growers have already showcased their prized fruit and vegetables today as judging for the British Giant Vegetable Championships begins.
They showcased their very large vegetables – from giant pumpkins to cucumbers over 100cm long (3.2ft) – at the Three Counties Showground.
Every year, records are expected to be broken, with this year being no exception as National Vegetal Society judges inspect each offering.
One of the defining features of the show is the Giant Vegetable Championship, which is expected to return this year with more oversized fruits and vegetables.

Tom, from Barry, south Wales, said his cucumber weighed 13.52kg (39lb) and measured a whopping 41in (3.4ft).

The September 22-24 event is the UK’s biggest celebration of the harvest season.

Several people have to help lift the huge pumpkin. Expert growers showcased their vegetables on Thursday ahead of this weekend’s festival.

Most vegetables are the size of a child, measuring a little over a meter and weighing several kilos.
He added: “It’s a 13.52kg cucumber, so that was a bit of a surprise. This is my first year of entry.
“It is made of good seed and good soil. I use alpaca manure. That helped him and a bit of luck.
“This is my first competition. I’ve tried pumpkins before. But I was given some cucumber seeds and thought I’d throw them in. I managed to grow a record.
“Mine is above average for this year, I think the previous record was 12.9kg.
“As long as life doesn’t take over with the baby, I want to try to beat my own record. I want to try cucumbers again.
