HBO is getting back into the Game of Thrones business, developing another spinoff that will likely serve as a prequel to House of the Dragon.
The pay cable network is teaming up with writer Mattson Tomlin, who did uncredited work on The Batman and is writing The Batman 2, for a new GoT spinoff following Aegon’s Conquest.
House of the Dragon was established to take place approximately 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and 100 years after Aegon Targaryen’s conquest.
This series would tell the story of how Aegon Targaryen conquered Westeros with his sisters/wives Visenya and Rhanys, and their dragons.
Within two years, he had united six of the Seven Kingdoms, conquering all but Dorne in his conquest.

It was established that The House of the Dragon took place approximately 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and 100 years after Aegon Targaryen’s conquest.
Aegon was also the first king to rule from a new city now known as King’s Landing, and he also created the Iron Throne from the swords of his defeated enemies.
He would also start what would become the small council and establish the first Hand of the King.
Aegon himself ruled Westeros for nearly 40, largely peaceful years, before passing away at age 63.
His Targaryen family would eventually rule Westeros through the strength of their dragons for nearly 300 years, before Robert’s Rebellion, approximately 17 years before the start of the Game of Thrones books and television series.
After Game of Thrones came to an end, HBO developed a series of spin-offs with author George RR Martin and several other writers.
Only two of them came to fruition, the first of which is House of the Dragon, which will premiere its second season later this year on HBO.
The second is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: A Hedge Knight, which is scheduled to film this year and is based on Martin’s short novels Dunk and Egg.
As for this potential new series, a source claimed that HBO was taking a “back to basics” approach, although it’s unclear what exactly that means.

Tomlin made his writing-directing debut with 2008’s The Projectionist before writing and directing 2012’s Solomon Grundy, based on one of his short films.
He would go on to write Netflix’s Project Power, starring Jamie Foxx and Dominique Fishback, and Little Fish, starring House of the Dragon’s Olivia Cooke.
He recently wrote and directed Mother/Android, starring Chloe Moretz, and wrote on 2022’s The Batman.
He is currently writing The Batman 2, along with a film adaptation of the 8-bit video game Mega Man and an adaptation of the comic book BRZRKR starring Keanu Reeves.
