Insiders said HBO is looking for a writer for the show to begin the series’ development process.
Insiders told the outlet that the show could also debut with a feature film, though plans are still unclear at this time.
Insiders said the potential prequel event — which takes place 300 years before the Game of Thrones timeline — will detail how Aegon I and their sister wives Visenya and Rhaenys deployed their forces and three dragons to take over six of the seven kingdoms of Westeros, with the exception of Dorne.

House of the Dragon was first to debut in August of 2022, and was renewed within a week of its premiere. The second season of the show is now in production stages.
So far, the only previous effort for a movie has been the 2019 pilot about Long Night featuring Naomi Watts.
The intellectual property, owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, a fertile source of new projects amid the series’ continued popularity.
The highly anticipated move comes as legacy media companies continue to strive to develop expanded TV and movie content, with Disney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe leading the way.
