Hundreds of people marched through the streets of Banjul, Gambia, many in support of a bill that would repeal the ban on female genital mutilation, a practice that has been on the rise in recent years despite activist campaigns to end it. FGM was banned in the country eight years ago and is punishable by up to three years in prison. A decision on whether to overturn the ban was postponed for three months after MPs called for more consultations.
