Uber has been called into question after one of its drivers allegedly double-charged an elderly couple as they returned home from a night out.

Fay Kanellos pre-booked her parents a $48.50 UberX reserve after having dinner with them in Melbourne at 6.30pm on Wednesday.

On the way home, the driver allegedly charged Ms. Kanellos’s parents an additional $45 in cash for the ride, which they paid without hesitation.

Ms. Kanellos revealed on TikTok that her parents were unaware of how ride-sharing apps worked and, as a result, would have been easily scammed by the driver.

Fay Kanellos (pictured) claimed her parents were charged twice by their Uber driver in Melbourne on Wednesday.

“My parents don’t understand Ubers, they’re old school with taxis and how you pay for them,” she said.

“I think it’s time to name and shame these kinds of Uber drivers because it’s really ruining the industry and the fact that they’re trying to rip off elderly parents is disgusting.”

“Uber, do better.”

Fellow TikTokers were shocked by Ms Kanellos’ claim.

One man asked if the extra $45 could have been a tip, but Ms. Kanellos said the driver had specifically requested payment.

An Uber spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia they were not aware of the alleged incident and said if it happened it would be a blatant breach of driver conduct .

“Fraudulent activity, such as driver-partners encouraging riders to pay cash in exchange for a ride, is a blatant violation of Uber’s community guidelines and this type of behavior can result in permanent loss of access to the application by driver-partners,” the spokesperson said. .

“We encourage users to report such behavior via the app, so that we can act immediately. »

Uber did, however, confirm that Ms Kanellos had been refunded $45 and that “action” had been taken on the driver’s account, although details regarding her future employment were unclear.
