Enzo Fernandez had to be removed after a Liverpool fan mocked him following Chelsea’s defeat in the Carabao Cup final.

The Argentine has had a torrid time at Stamford Bridge since arriving for a British record fee of £107million during Graham Potter’s time in charge of the club in January last year.

Sunday’s clash offered the former Benfica star his first chance at a title with the Blues, but that was not to be.

Both teams had goals disallowed by VAR at Wembley, and Fernandez squandered a golden opportunity to give his team the lead when he attempted a backheel instead of playing with a teammate early in the second half.

The match remained goalless well into extra time before Virgil van Dijk scored from a late corner to secure the victory for the Reds.

The frustrations among Mauricio Pochettino’s team were palpable after the final whistle, although none more so than that of Fernández when he went to collect his runners-up medal.

As the 23-year-old walked up the steps at Wembley, a Liverpool fan shouted: “Enzo, you unlucky lad,” before bursting into laughter.

Fernández was clearly incensed by the provocation and looked directly at the supporter.

However, the reaction only served to make the fan burst into laughter, and his teammate, Jimi Tauriainen, quickly dismissed him.

The 23-year-old stared at a Liverpool fan before being taken away by Jimi Tauriainen.

The fan later shared the images on social media writing: ‘CaSomeone get @Enzo13Fernandez something food he must be very hungry, a lot of bite there he just said better look next year he wanted to punch me200,000 a week plus he just stood up to me.

However, Fernández was not the only one who felt the pressure after such an agonizing defeat.

Some fans on social media noted that Pochettino appeared to snub Chelsea owner Todd Boehly after the loss.
