Apple has increased the prices of its music and TV+ plans in the UK and US – and customers aren’t happy.
In the UK, Apple TV+ costs from £4.99 to £6.99 per month, while the annual subscription ranges from £49 to £69 per year.
Meanwhile, Apple Music has risen from £9.99 per month to £10.99 per month, making it more expensive than rival Spotify (£9.99 per month).
Apple One – the all-in-one plan that bundles multiple Apple services – now also costs £16.95 per month, up from £14.95.
Customers took to Twitter to express their dismay at the tech giant’s raising prices — a decision being made amid a cost of living crisis.

Apple has increased the cost of Apple TV+ for the first time since its launch in 2019, as the catalog has grown tremendously, the company said.
But Twitter user @CheezHella said, “Apple TV is a definite cancellation at that price.”
According to Nick Baker, TV and streaming expert at Uswitch.com, Apple’s decision to increase its streaming prices will be “a big test of customer loyalty.”
Apple TV+ will be completed with Netflix, which is about to launch a new ad-supported tier for £4.99 per month, and Disney+, which will launch a similar ad tier in the US in December.
“As the cheapest of the mainstream streaming services, AppleTV+’s 40 percent price hike will be a major blow to its UK customers,” Baker said.
Apple One – the all-in-one plan that bundles up to six Apple services, including Apple TV+ and Apple Music – now also costs £16.95 per month, up from £14.95
SKY LAUNCHES ‘AFFORDABLE’ TV STREAMING BOX
Sky has launched a new ‘affordable’ TV streaming box amid the cost of living crisis that starts at less than £1 a day.
Called Sky Stream, the palm-sized box plugs into any TV to stream content over Wi-Fi.
Starting at £26 per month on an 18-month contract, it gives customers access to over 150 channels and 100,000 hours of content – and it includes Netflix.
Apple’s decision to increase its monthly cost from £4.99 to £6.99 per month also seems to be swimming against the tide, at a time when rivals Netflix and Disney Plus are introducing new, cheaper subscription tiers supported by advertising.
‘This increase will mainly be a major test for customer loyalty. AppleTV+ has fewer movies than Netflix, whose Basic With Ads package launches at £4.99 a month.”
Apple TV+ currently offers dozens of original titles, including the 2022 Oscar Best Picture winner CODA.
Also popular is the Emmy-winning series Ted Lasso and Shantaram, a drama thriller based on the best-selling novel.
However, Baker pointed out that Apple TV+ has by far the least amount of content, compared to TV streaming rivals like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
“Unlike Netflix, Apple can use its streaming service as part of a broader strategy, offering free trials on the sale of iPhones and other devices,” he said.
“It also relies solely on original shows like Ted Lasso and The Morning Show, while Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video both draw heavily from big old catalogs.”

NEARLY 1M BRITISH CANCELLED VIDEO STREAMING
Nearly a million Britons have canceled their subscription to video streaming services so far this year amid the cost of living crisis.
According to Kantar, the number of homes in the UK with at least one paid video subscription fell by 937,000 between January and September.
In the last quarter alone – between July and September – 234,000 British households ditched video streaming.
Paolo Pescatore, an analyst at PP Foresight, said Apple’s price increases are “a real test of consumers’ appetites to keep paying for these services.”
But he pointed out that Apple isn’t alone in doing this; this year, Netflix, Disney+, and Hulu have all increased their monthly subscription prices.
“All providers and streamers are raising prices,” Pescatore told MailOnline. “Unfortunately, these steps have not gone down well with subscribers given the cost of living.
Unlike others, this is the first time Apple has raised prices for these services. It shows that no one is immune to price increases given the rising costs of content, media and everything else.”
As for Apple’s music streaming service, the £10.99 monthly price means “going for Spotify is an obvious choice right now,” said Twitter user @ohiobrownz.
@OriginalBad also said: ‘Time to cancel Apple TV and Music and fire up Spotify, I think.’
However, one die-hard Apple Music fan said, “Apple Music could be $50 a month and I’m still not switching to Spotify.”
Spotify offers a two-month free trial, compared to Apple Music’s one-month trial.
Also, unlike Spotify, Apple Music does not provide a free ad-supported tier.
With Apple’s price hikes, Apple Music’s cost is now higher than competitor Spotify, which costs £9.99 per month for an individual account
In the US, the costs of Apple TV+, Apple Music, and Apple One are all going up as well.
Apple TV+ jumps from $4.99 to $6.99 per month and similarly, the annual plan goes from $49 to $69 per year.
Apple Music also increases by $1 to $10.99 per month for a single user, while Apple One now starts at $16.95 per month.
According to the tech giant, the price has risen to reflect the streaming service’s vast and diverse program offering.
Apple said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter: “We introduced Apple TV+ at a very low price because we started with just a few shows and movies.
“Three years later, Apple TV+ is home to a vast selection of award-winning and critically acclaimed series, feature films, documentaries and children’s and family entertainment from the world’s most creative storytellers.”
Apple has similarly justified the increase in the cost of Apple Music as “due to an increase in licensing costs.”
It said artists, in turn, will be paid more for streaming their music.
