The hour-long ride captivated onlookers in the busy California city when a reckless unidentified woman, said to be in her thirties, allegedly stole a vehicle and fled.

Initial reports of the chase came in around 2 p.m. Wednesday after the Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports of a Honda CR-V stolen just 15 minutes earlier.

From there, the frantic driver led LAPD officers onto the busy 14 Freeway near Santa Clarita before exiting and heading north on the 5 Freeway.

Almost the entire incident was broadcast live on television and the crazed driver did almost anything to avoid the police in their relentless pursuit.

The woman reached speeds of up to 130 miles per hour as the broadcast shows her veering onto the shoulder of the road, hitting traffic cones and taking sharp, dangerous curves.

After nearly half an hour of fruitless pursuit by the LAPD, the California Highway Patrol joined the now viral chase.

The chase continued down Highway 5 into Kern County at speeds still over 100 miles per hour, police say. The driver then turned near Tehachapi and headed south on 5.

“Unfortunately, the vehicle was going too fast to negotiate the curve at the transition from 5 South to 138 and crashed,” the CHP said at a late afternoon news conference.

‘This is not something we want. Very unfortunate circumstances.

No one else was injured during the chase. The CHP Central Division and the CHP Special Crash Unit are investigating the crash.
