A Frontier Airlines plane skidded off the end of the runway at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Friday night.

The plane came off the tarmac with the front wheels embedded in the grass.

Emergency vehicles were quickly on the scene, but it later turned out that there were no injuries on board.

“Descended very quickly, only touched the wheels half way down the runway, two jarring noises/bumps, a swerve in the grass where we dropped and stopped,” tweeted one passenger on board.

‘Went off the end of the runway and into the grass! Just a few nervous chuckles for a crash here at Reagan National,” added another passenger.

“During the deceleration we hit some scary bumps. Noticeable error. Then a swerve, and a big drop in the grass and a lot of ‘Are you okay?’ for all the people around us. I’ve been in the grass for 50 minutes now, waiting for pretty much any movement,” she added.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority later released a statement in response to the incident.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Friday, Frontier Airlines Flight 538, which arrived at Reagan National Airport (DCA) from Denver (DEN) and was operating on an Airbus A320, landed safely before coming to rest in a grassy area on the end of runway 1. .

“No injuries have been reported and passengers will be removed from the aircraft via stairs and taken to the terminal by buses. Runway 1/19 is temporarily closed to air traffic while airport staff are assessing the situation, and runway 15/33 is open.’

At 11.30 pm the buses were on site and the passengers could be removed from the plane.

“Finally #Frontier got out of DCA so we were completely in the grass,” Dasha Afanaseva tweeted an hour after landing. “This is the craziest thing there is!”

Frontier later released a statement confirming the details.

Earlier this evening, Frontier Flight 538, operating on an A320 Airbus aircraft, from Denver to Washington-Reagan with 151 passengers and six crew on board, came to a stop on landing just past the runway. No injuries among passengers or crew have been reported.

‘Passengers are transported by bus to the terminal and assisted further. Safety is our top priority and an investigation is underway into the cause of the incident.’
