Frontex: European border crossings across the central Mediterranean increased “more than doubled” in 2023
The European border agency Frontex announced Friday that the number of European Union border crossings across the central Mediterranean “more than doubled” in 2023 compared to the same period last year.
The agency said in a statement that in the first five months of this year, the European Union countries monitored more than 50,300 irregular crossings via this route, which is “the highest number recorded since 2017.”
