How did you get your big break?
My first ball-by -ball international commentary was an accident. It happened when it became obvious that Pakistan were about be eliminated from the 2007 World Cup. World Cup by Ireland in what was the largest upset World Cup had never seen. I was there as a BBC solo broadcaster. I was expecting to report on a routine win by Pakistan. However, I had to call the climax of this match ball by ball, as Ireland won. Pakistan were out. The next morning, their coach was found murdered in his hotel room. As a journalist, I was present at the crime scene and police launched a murder investigation.

What are your daily news media habits and how do they affect you?
In the UK it’s BBC Radio 5Live or Radio 4 in the morning. In Aus, it’s ABC News Radio, Sunrise on Channel 7, and I love The Project on Ten for how accessible they make the news. I use Twitter and online newspapers to find sports news.

Michelle Obama – I’ve recently listened to the audio book of Becoming.

Your guilty streaming pleasure
No guilt involved Schitt’s Creek Keep going!

Which phrase are you guilty of using too often?
“How’s the serenity…”

What were you hoping to do as a teenager?
Be a vet. I’m an animal lover. But then I realised I wasn’t strong at science. I was a huge fan of sport and had a taste for broadcasting through work experience.
