The animal then runs to the family and jumps at the girl, bit her in the left arm and refuses to let go.

The girl’s startled family members then force the dog away from the girl after a fight of about 20 seconds.

Fortunately, the girl suffered from moderate puncture wounds on the left biceps and forearm – injuries that required medical treatment.

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region has posted a video of the attack on its Facebook account.

The organization said the dog’s owner was arrested and charged with illegal ownership of a dangerous animal.

In such cases, the owner of the dog can choose to have the animal embarked at a recognized agency or to put the dog down.

In this case the owner has chosen to have the dog euthanized.

The Humane Society has posted the video to raise awareness of a Bite Blotter, an online log of incidents in which pets become violent towards other animals and people.

The names of the young girl and the dog owner have not been released by the authorities in this case.
