Friends Executive Producer Kevin S. Bright says Matthew Perry seemed ‘stronger and better’ at the reunion … after fans voiced concerns about his health and slurred speech
Friends executive producer Kevin S. Bright said he saw Matthew Perry recording the new reunion special.
After promo interviews dropped for the reunion show earlier this month, fans online began voicing concerns about Matthew’s health.
But Kevin told me The Hollywood Reporter they spoke at the reunion and ‘[Matthew] seems stronger and better since the last time I saw him, and excited to move on. ‘

Kevin, who also played a prominent role in the HBO Max special himself, said, “I talked to him. It was great to see him again. ‘

Kevin, who also directed multiple episodes of Friends during the series, said, “And I think he’s really funny on the show. But yeah, I think he’s okay. ‘
When Matthew appeared in the promotional interviews for the special, some fans thought that at one point he obscured his speech by pronouncing an ‘s’ as a ‘sh’.

He also seemed somewhat dejected throughout PeopleCheck out the special inside, with fans taking to social media to express their condolences.
A Twitter user wrote, “I just saw People interview and can’t believe what Matthew Perry looks like … seriously, it breaks my heart.”
Another commented: “It pains me to see Matthew Perry like this, he just seems to look away, staring at the void, speaking slowly.”
“Hate to say it, but I’m sad and afraid of Matthew Perry,” wrote a third. “D * mn, Matthew Perry in those PEOPLE Friends interviews.”

Matthew has been open about his past addictions, once telling the BBC that he can’t remember ‘three years’ of shooting Friends, but has since gotten sober.
He became addicted to Vicodin after a jet ski accident in 1997 and has told People that after that his habit “got out of hand and became very unhealthy.”

The reunion special aired Thursday and was controversially presented by James Corden whose late-night executive producer Ben Winston directed.
All six cast – Matthew, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc – got together for the reunion.
They reminisced about old times, met old guest stars and even visited their old sets and recited some old scenes from the program.
