Authorities are searching for the parents of a two-year-old boy who was abandoned in a suitcase in the central Mexican city of Puebla.

The disturbing discovery occurred Tuesday morning when a woman walking through the La Loma neighborhood heard a child crying.

The woman approached the suitcase and found the child covered in water.

While changing the boy’s clothes, the officer noticed that he showed signs that he had been recently beaten.

‘He had visible wounds on his face,’ officer BetsabĂ© Zallas told Mega Noticias.

‘Likewise, my job was to protect the minor, keep him warm so that he could (be taken) to the police patrol to determine the minor’s diagnosis.’

Paramedics arrived at the scene and found him in good health and then rushed him to the Northern General Hospital, where doctors diagnosed him and treated him for hypothermia, malnutrition and numbness in his body, ABC Noticias reported.

The boy was discharged that same day and remains in the custody of the National System for the Comprehensive Development of the Family, which is caring for him while the police search for his family.

Gaby Bonilla, who oversees the social assistance agency, revealed on her X account that she met with the boy on Wednesday.

“I am pleased to share that his health is favorable and he will recover very soon,” he said.
