A runner who suffered a medical episode on the Gold Coast marathon course has reportedly died after being rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Emergency services responded to the popular racing circuit at around 9:45am on Sunday after two runners were reported to have suffered a “medical incident”.
The couple, believed to be between the ages of 20 and 50, were rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital and placed in intensive care.

The Courier Mail reported that one of the two men, believed to be a French national, died in hospital on Monday, after collapsing just meters from the finish line.
The Queensland newspaper reported that the other runner also remained in critical condition.
In a statement, Events Management Queensland thanked the ongoing medical team for the “rapid provision of critical care”.
“Our thoughts are with the participants and their families,” the statement added.
The popular Gold Coast Marathon takes place between 1 and 2 July and attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year due to its ‘flat, fast and scenic course’.
