A French police officer was stabbed in the neck and hand inside a police station, local media report.
The attacker pulled out a knife and threw himself at the officer in the hallway of the La Rochelle police station.
The police officer was walking through the reception of the building at around 1pm this afternoon when the man stabbed him repeatedly.
The man was quickly subdued and arrested, regional newspaper South West reports. The motives for the attack are currently unknown.
The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his neck and hands.

The French police union Unité SGP issued an outraged statement following the incident and called for security gates to be installed at the police station.
“We are shocked once again by this gratuitous violence committed against the police,” the statement said, according to Sud Ouest.
‘This attack is violent and traumatic. We remain attentive to the health status of our injured colleague.
‘Our union organization has contacted our management on multiple occasions about the installation of a security door.
“The safety of our colleagues is priceless and we hope that this long-awaited device arrives as soon as possible,” he added.
