Coach Christian Streich from SC Freiburg does not want to pay any attention to the forthcoming highlight in the DFB Cup on the coming match day of the Bundesliga.
“The game on Tuesday will have no relevance to the line-up on Saturday,” Streich emphasized before the guest appearance at 1. FC Köln (3:30 p.m. / Sky): “Everyone knows what a win on Saturday means for us. For us, there is a lot at stake.”
The sports club is currently two points ahead of the last Champions League rank ahead of RB Leipzig, which is also an opponent in the cup semi-finals on Tuesday (8.45 p.m. / Sky and ZDF).
Midfielder Maximilian Eggestein will return to the squad for the league game in Cologne after his suspension. For central defender Manuel Gulde, the game is likely to come a little too early after his muscle injury.
He expects “an attractive game” in the Rhineland, emphasized Streich: “They are looking for attacking football and that gives us opportunities. It’s going to be loud, passionate – and we’re looking forward to it. We want to follow this passion and be a little better in the end than Cologne.”
