Jon Richardson has undergone a makeover to look like an old man for the next series of his comedy Dave.

The comedian, 41, looked unrecognizable in photos from the fifth season of Meet The Richardsons, which begins airing on April 8.

With a bald cap, prosthetic wrinkles, and lots of special effects makeup, Jon looked twice his age and more like his grumpy old man character.

He was seen joyfully riding around on a mobility scooter as he took on the role of grandfather, to see what life was like for seniors.

Meet The Richardsons stars Jon and his wife Lucy Beaumont, 40, who play fictional versions of themselves in a mockumentary format.

Fellow comedian Lucy also co-writes the show alongside Tim Reid, and various comedians and celebrities often make cameos, usually also playing a dramatic version of themselves.

Last month it was revealed that the new series will feature appearances by a host of famous faces, including Ben Shephard, Kimberly Wyatt, Lee Mack, Alexander Armstrong, Gregg Wallace, Stephen Mangan, Amanda Abbington, Dick & Dom, Adrian Chiles, Nigel Havers, Cheryl Baker and the sassy girls.

The fifth series was confirmed exactly a year ago, even before the fourth series began airing.

Dave recommissioned the comedy for another run after it was named Best Comedy at the 2022 Broadcast Digital Awards.

Speaking to The Sun last year, Lucy said: ‘Yes, we have another series commissioned. The idea for the next series is that we want to make a sitcom and have it be a bit like Heartbeat with gags, but as Jon wants to retire soon, he wants to win an award.

“That’s why he wants the comedy to be more surreal and abstract. So we each go and pitch ideas for our own comedy, then we take it to a focus group and we have to get back together.”

Last year, Lucy earned a nomination for Best Female Performance in a Comedy Program at the BAFTA TV Awards.

This will play a big part in the upcoming series, as well as Lucy’s 40th birthday and a new big famous neighbor.

According to Dave: ‘In this series, Lucy’s career is boosted by her BAFTA nomination and she is treated to shows from the great to the downright bizarre.

“Jon is fine with Lucy’s success, he’s not competitive at all and knows when he’s defeated.

“So, while Lucy is busy with Taskmaster, Bake Off and Celebrity Chinese Whispers, Jon is plotting his escape from TV, with one last lucrative job presenting a new daytime quiz show.

“Meanwhile, at home, a global superstar and his partner move in next door, making it harder than ever to keep up with the neighbors.

‘Lucy is turning 40 and would really like Jon to accompany her to Glastonbury to celebrate. He will never agree to that. But will they both agree that five series of Meet The Richardsons is more than enough?
