The superstar jockey was riding at Aqueduct Racetrack in New York when he was thrown from his horse in the starting gate on Thursday.

In a post on social media, he wrote: “I appreciate all the messages. I’m fine! I dislocated my right shoulder; my team here at the hospital have reconstructed it.”

Keith McCalmont, communications officer for the New York Racing Association, wrote on Twitter that Dettori was able to walk to the ambulance, where he was then taken to Jamaica Hospital.

In a later update, he reported that a status of Dettori’s driving will be provided today.

Dettori, 53, was booked for six rides on Friday, eight on Saturday and three on Sunday.

But given his injury, it will be a bit difficult for him to get back on horseback in the coming days.

The Italian moved to California in late 2023 after a 32-year career in Britain, where he established himself as the world’s most famous jockey.

He has continued to impress in the United States, with a total of 64 winners.
