Tyson Fury’s heavyweight showdown with Anthony Joshua appears to have come a step closer after the Gypsy King’s co-promoter revealed that his team has finally been awarded a contract for the superfight.
The clash between the heavyweight champions appeared to be on the verge of collapse this week after Fury’s team expressed frustration with Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, who consistently failed to meet deadlines.
Bob Arum, the American promoter of Fury, said the unification fight was “ dead in the water ” and that the WBC champion would chase down other opponents, namely arch-rival Deontay Wilder.
Tyson Fury has now received his contract for the mega fight with Anthony Joshua this summer
The clash with the British heavyweight was in danger of collapsing earlier this week
However, Frank Warren, who also promotes Fury, has revealed that the Gypsy King’s camp has finally received a copy of the contract and is forensically reviewing the details of the agreement.
“Something has come through from the other side,” Warren said SecondsOut. ‘A contract that we are all reviewing, a proposal.
“A proposal for a contract that we are reviewing. And of course we will look at it and hopefully we can agree on the terms. We all want that. ‘
Bob Arum (L), Fury’s US promoter, said deal was ‘dead in the water’ and slammed Eddie Hearn
AJ’s promoter, Hearn, is confident the heavyweight fight will be confirmed soon
Hearn has always insisted that a £ 108 million deal for a mid-summer fight between Joshua and Fury remain in the Saudi Arabia’s pipeline, saying: ‘It will be 100 percent for sure. A little support would be nice. ‘
And Warren has insisted that all sides want to get the deal on the line, insisting that hard work is being done to bring the mega fight to a close.
“We all want this fight, everyone wants this fight,” he said. ‘It’s not about being negative, you can only respond to an offer if you have an offer and try to get it on the line.
And Warren says Fury’s team is forensically reviewing the contract before reaching an agreement
‘We are working, everyone is working hard to get this going. And with fingers crossed we get it over the line. ‘
Warren’s update comes as a boost after veteran promoter Arum was adamant this week that Joshua and Fury would have to take on different opponents this summer due to the complexities of hosting the fight in Saudi Arabia.
“Fury-Joshua appears dead in the water,” said the 89-year-old. Tyson has been out of action for too long and has to fight this summer. Who else is he going to fight against Wilder? A third fight between them is huge in itself. ‘
Eddie [Hearn] has only one fight left with his Joshua contract and he’s desperate for this big one. Usyk is a good fight, but not as big as Tyson and AJ. But it doesn’t seem possible now for next year or even the year after. Like Tyson, Joshua has to fight fast. ‘
The British promoter insisted that all parties want to win the deal if possible
