Frank Lampard is close to returning to the dugout as manager of a Championship team, according to a report.
Lampard has been out of work since his interim spell with Chelsea at the end of the 2022-23 season, in which he replaced Graeme Potter until Mauricio Pochettino took over.
It was his second spell with the Blues, and his first appointment in 2019 initially met with success until he was sacked in January 2021 by former owner Roman Abramovich.
He has also been in charge of Derby County and Everton since finishing playing in 2017, with varying success at both clubs, but the former England star is struggling to settle.
Now, however, it could, according to The mirrorwill be set to return to the dugout with Championship side Coventry City, who brutally sacked manager Mark Robins last week.
Frank Lampard is close to returning to manage with a Championship team, according to report
The former midfielder has been out of work since his time as Chelsea’s interim manager in 2023.
He could replace Mark Robins, who was sacked after seven years in the role, at Coventry.
Robins left the club in 17th place in the Championship following a 2-1 defeat to Derby County at home on Wednesday night. They have appointed assistant coach Rhys Carr on an interim basis while they search for Robins’ successor.
In 2022-23, he took them to the Championship play-off final, where they lost on penalties to Luton, and last season they were agonizingly knocked out of the FA Cup semi-finals by Manchester United on spot-kicks .
Robins returned to the Sky Blues in March 2017 for a second spell in charge of the bottom League One club and failed to avoid relegation that season.
However, he led them to immediate promotion and in 2019-20 led them to the League One title. He was the longest serving manager in the Football League.
Coventry have also been linked with the likes of League One-toppers Wycombe boss Matt Bloomfield, as well as Robbie Keane and current England interim boss Lee Carsley.
But Lampard is now the heavy favorite to head to the CBS Arena dugout, and could be in position for Coventry’s next game, at home against Sheffield United, after the international break.
He would be free to appoint for City, as he is out of a job; The same cannot be said for people like Bloomfield.
Coventry drew 1-1 with leaders Sunderland in their first game of the post-Robins era on Saturday, with Haji Wright and Jack Rudoni ensuring they came back from 2-0 down at the Stadium of Light.

Coventry are 17th in the championship and could sign Lampard during the international break
Robins’ sacking left many fans scratching their heads, with the general opinion being that he should have been given time to turn around his poor start to the season.
Coventry had taken seven points from five games since the last international break and, before their defeat to Derby, had beaten Luton 3-2 and Middlesbrough 3-0 in consecutive games.
They came close to knocking Tottenham out of the third round of the Carabao Cup in September, before a late comeback with goals from Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson saw them out.
