France’s Macron asks Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne to propose new government
French President Emmanuel Macron has asked Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne to propose a new “government of action” to be appointed in early July, according to an interview with AFP.
Macron also reaffirmed his long-term confidence in Borne, AFP said in a Twitter post.
The president turned down Borne’s offer to resign on Tuesday, in the wake of a biting election defeat last week that saw him lose his absolute majority in parliament.
Pressured to compromise, Macron has tried to reach out to political opponents and ask them to come up with ideas for the fragmented parliament to pass laws.
