Three French policemen were seriously injured during clashes with protesters at ExxonMobil’s Fos-sur-Mer oil refinery near the coastal city of Marseille on Tuesday morning, March 21, 2023.
The clashes occurred when the government took steps to order workers to resume work at the refinery.
The protests at this site were the latest in a series of growing social unrest against President Emmanuel Macron’s plans to raise the retirement age.
A cloud of tear gas filled the refinery site, while some demonstrators sporadically pelted the police with various tools.
