The management of France 24 has expressed its deep concern over the interaction with the indictment against the journalist and former France 24 correspondent in Algeria, Moncef Ait Kassi, and the journalist and director Ramadan Rahmouni, who were brought before the court on charges of obtaining funding from abroad and publishing information that harms the national interest.
On Wednesday, March 9, 2023, Moncef Ait Kassi, a journalist and former France 24 correspondent in Algeria, appeared before the courts in Algiers, on charges of obtaining funding from abroad and publishing information that harms the national interest, according to the Public Prosecutor.
Moncef Ait Kassi was arrested and placed in temporary detention on the twentieth of July 2020, then he was released and officially obtained from the Algerian authorities his accreditation as a journalist.
And on March 8, 2023, the Public Prosecution requested a three-year prison sentence against Moncef Ait Kassi and journalist and director Ramadan Rahmouni. Both of them practiced their profession professionally, accurately and with complete transparency.
Awaiting the verdict, which is expected to be issued on the twenty-second of this month, the France 24 administration expresses its great concern about the indictment. The administration also expresses its confidence in justice and its full support for its former team accredited to the authorities in Algeria.
