Fox News’ Brit Hume slammed Lara Trump after she criticized a Republican Senate candidate for not being loyal to her father-in-law Donald Trump.
Co-chairman of the Republican National Committee went after the ex Maryland Republican Governor and Senate candidate Larry Hogan for his response to Trump’s verdict of silence.
But Hume, who is the network’s chief political analyst, called it “political negligence” for Republicans to pursue one of their own candidates.
After Donald Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records by a New York jury, Hogan wrote in X: “Regardless of the outcome, I urge all Americans to respect the verdict and the legal process.”
“At this dangerously divided moment in our history, all leaders, regardless of party, must not add fuel to the fire with more toxic partisanship,” he continued. “We must reaffirm what has made this nation great: the rule of law.”
Fox News’ Brit Hume called Lara Trump’s criticism of Larry Hogan for his response to Trump’s verdict “political malpractice.” Hogan is running as a Republican for Senate
His response was not welcomed by Lara Trump and members of the Trump campaign.
When asked about her post during an appearance on CNN, Lara Trump said she did not support it and even suggested that the party is open to enlisting the support of a Republican candidate who could help the party win the Senate for the Republicans.
“He deserves no respect from anyone in the Republican Party right now and, frankly, from anyone in America, if they feel that way,” he said.
“Of course we want to win as a party, but it’s a shame and I think I should have thought long and hard before saying it publicly,” he continued when asked if it was worth conceding a seat to Democrats.
Brit Hume said on Fox News that the ‘Lara Trumps of the world’ should tell Hogan to do whatever it takes to get elected. “This is how intelligent people play politics,” said Hume.
“Maryland is a very blue state,” Hume said. “And Larry Hogan, who remained popular as a Republican governor and remains so to this day, is giving the Republican Party the best chance it has had in a long time to elect a Republican to the Senate.”
“The Lara Trumps of the world should be saying ‘please Mr. Hogan, please Governor Hogan, do what you have to do to get elected, and some of the things you say and believe don’t line up with what I think , all right, do what you have to do,” Hume said.
Hume continued: “This is how intelligent people play politics.”
He warned that Trump’s team could be repeating the same mistake it made in 2020, when the former president “messed things up” in Georgia and Republicans lost the Senate seat there.
Lara Trump wasn’t the only supporter of the former president who went after Hogan.
Trump campaign senior adviser Chris LaCivita wrote in response to her post, “You just finished your campaign.”
Republicans are seeking to take back the Senate this fall from Democrats, who currently hold a one-seat majority. The GOP has a friendly electoral map to help them get there, but the addition of Hogan as a candidate in Maryland increased their chances.
Hogan was a popular Republican governor in the blue state. Polls show that his entry into the race to replace outgoing Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin made her competitive in a state that would otherwise be a safe seat for Democrats.
