Four people have died after a horror crash involving a taxi and a four-wheel drive vehicle on a major Perth highway early this morning.
Emergency services were rushed to Leach Highway, near Perth Airport, at around 3.40am on Monday following reports of a head-on collision which caused a vehicle to catch fire.
Police said the Toyota RAV4 was traveling on the wrong side of the road when it collided with the taxi that was heading southwest away from the intersection of Tonkin Highway and Airport Drive.
The driver of a Toyota RAV4 and the 58-year-old man who was driving a taxi died at the scene.
Two passengers in the back seat of the taxi, aged 56 and 81, also lost their lives.
Shocking images of the accident were shared on social media, showing one car engulfed in flames and the other vehicle destroyed.
The road is closed in both directions between Tonkin Highway and Orrong Road and is expected to remain closed while Major Crash officers investigate.
Leading accident investigators are at the scene and have urged anyone who witnessed or has footage of the crash to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
