A four-month-old baby was left in a coma after his Italian grandmother used wine to dilute his milk powder.
The baby is in an alcohol coma after his grandmother accidentally used wine when preparing his milk when she mistook the wine bottle for the dark-colored glass water bottle, according to local media reports.
The grandmother, from Francavilla Fontana in the southern Italian province of Brindisi, allegedly gave the baby the bottle around noon on Monday. She drank some of the powdered milk and wine mixture before rejecting the bottle.
She realized her mistake after smelling the bottle and took her grandson to the nearby Perrino Hospital, where he received urgent treatment.
The little boy had his stomach pumped before being intubated and transferred yesterday to the intensive care unit of the Giovanni pediatric hospital in Bari.
