Police are searching for a group of attackers after four men were attacked with “extreme” violence in Sydney’s west.

Emergency services were called to Carpenter Street in Colyton, near Penrith, at around 11.15pm on Saturday following reports of the assault.

A 20-year-old man suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to Westmead Hospital.

His three friends were also attacked and are receiving hospital treatment.

Detective Inspector Steve Peroni described the 20-year-old’s injuries as “the worst categories of assault I have seen in a long time”.

Detective Inspector Steve Peroni (pictured) described one of the men’s injuries as “the worst categories of assault I have seen in a long time”.

“The four were walking down Carpenter Street…at some point they were assaulted by a group of males of unknown number,” he said during a news conference Sunday.

‘The level of violence used is extreme. The injuries indicate the use of weapons or blunt weapons.’

No arrests have yet been made, but officers are focusing on a particular house on Carpenter Street where it is understood a party was held.

Inspector Peroni did not confirm whether the attack was targeted or random, but assured the public that there was no ongoing threat as far as the police were aware.

Carpenter Street was closed overnight while officers processed the crime scene.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident is asked to contact Nepean Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
