Four people have died and dozens have been injured after the collapse of a building in a resort in Mallorca this afternoon.

A hundred lifeguards, including police and firefighters, have traveled to the scene of the incident, identified locally as a terrace of a beach bar in Playa de Palma called Medusa Beach Club.

The first floor of the two-story building collapsed “into the basement,” local media reported, causing devastation to the interior building and injuring many more.

Around ten people are believed to be still trapped in the rubble as desperate rescue operations continue.

“The death toll now stands at four and the number of injured at 27 and there may still be more people trapped under the rubble,” said a well-placed source.

Local authorities also claim that one person was seriously injured in the collapse, without providing further information on the identity of those affected.
