Once called one of the most desirable cities in the US, Austin now seems to be losing its luster.
Moving company PODS released an annual report on moving trends and found that the city had the fifth most moves by 2024.
The city saw its home values drop 20 percent in November from the pandemic peak, according to Nick Gerli, CEO of real estate data platform Reventure App.
He said the number of homes for sale was increasing as housing supply exceeded demand.
Gerli attributed the increase in the number of homes for sale in Texas to homebuilders and investors “beginning to liquidate out of this market.”
In other words, they’re starting to sell because they’re not making any money on their homes due to high property taxes and stagnant rents.
“Builders are having to make big markdowns to sell homes, which is hurting the resale market,” he added.
